Duplicate car key for a Volkswagen in Sheffield

I need a duplicate car (key + fob) for a Volkswagen. I was advised that the "trade price" of a duplicate (key + fob) would be in the £50-£75 range, but when I called the VW authorised dealer, he quoted a lot more.

 

Has anyone had a VW duplicate (key + fob) cut and programmed, anywhere in Sheffield? Or if anyone on the forum works at a VW dealership, can they please advise how much it would cost?

I recently had to obtain a replacement key fob for an Audi.

 

I had to go to a main Audi dealership, as the new key fob needed coding, as well as having the car and the other key fob re-coded. The computer used to code the key fobs and car, is linked to a computer at Audi's HQ in Germany that issues the new codes, which is all done securely - the technicians who do the reprogramming, will not get to know the codes.

 

Hence, the hefty cost of £250+.

 

I suspect it will be the same for VW's

I was quoted £150 by the dealer, but a garage dealer said it the "trade price" or the price quoted for traders (like garage owners) was lower.

Depends how new the car is.

Duplicate keys for newer Audi / VW's have to be specifically made by the factory in Germany for each car.

This takes approx a week.

When the key arrives at the dealer the key will then need to be programmed to the car it was ordered for by the dealer.
