Chelle-82 Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 When my grandfather passed away he left his house/money etc to his 4 sons and 3 daughters to be divided equally.. My grandfather fell out with one of his sons some 30yrs before his death and my uncle didnt see his dad until the night he died when he came back to sheffield to say bye to him.. Grandad used to say many times he was going to take him out of his will but he never did, and when he finally went into a nursing home he was asked officially if he wanted to make any changes to his will and he said no and kept my uncle in the will.. My OH's family had this issue, my OH great aunt didnt have any of her own children and she was a wealthy woman so she decided to leave her estate to her nieces and nephews.. there are 13 of them in total and she left 85k to each of them expect one!! It was one of her nieces who she had an argument with about a year before she died and she kicked her out of the will :hihi:
DnAuK Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Fortunately I won't have this dilemma. When I retire I plan to sell the house, move into rented accommodation, and p!55 the proceeds up the wall!
Scutts Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I don't think the council would like the idea of me leaving one of their properties to my children
geared Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Council tenants can pass their property onto offspring, or the offspring can take it over (whatever way you want to look at it) Obviously it's still a council house.

Does it depend on the property? My nan lives in a one bed council bungalow on an estate designated to old people living on their own I can't see the council allowing that property to pass onto the family should she die.
geared Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Might have to be living with the parents for them to be able to pass it on?

You can only do that once (possibly twice on appeal) and that's already been done....
