Has anyone use one of the simple small die cutting machines like the Tattered Lace baby blue? My ten year old niece loves papercraft, colouring cutting and sticking as well as other crafts. Sometimes I craft with her but usually she just does her own thing. She never seems to tire of these things and can amuse herself for hours. I'm considering getting her a simple die cutter for xmas but we only usually spend about £40. I can buy the baby blue and a set of thirteen dies for this money, what are your thoughts?

I have considered getting her a bigshot but I can't afford any dies to go with it. I also wonder if the different platforms may be a bot much for her to work out.

Hi Cheryl, I have the spellbinders sapphire which is the alternative to the baby blue. It is very handy for the smaller dies and comes with a selection of dies that I would class as ideal for a younger crafter. There are only 4 plates, base plate, cutting plate, embossing plate and rubber mat, so no confusion there. Under £40 I think, including some dies. It would make an ideal present.....and when she gets fed up with it can come back to you!!

Thanks Pat. I will see what Sapphire and baby blue offers I can find. I think baby blue cuts up to three inch wide whereas Sapphire 2 and a quarter inch wide.

Pat, I saw an offer where you get a free baby blue if you spend £40 on dies. I was going to phone the company up this morning to see what dies were coming into stock as most were showing out of stock. I didn't because C&C sent me an email through this morning with an offer on the Sapphire. C&C also have a (DoCraft) set of 49 dies mini dies for £24.99. It comes to another £10 more than I was going to spend but I will either hold back some dies until her birthday or spend less on her on her birthday.

Hope she likes it now. We will have to wait and see! I will show her how to use it and try and persuade her to use it at grandparents as they live next door to me. That way the dies are less likely to get lost. I will put them on a magnetic sheet for her after she has opened them.

Thanks Pat. I wasn't quite early enough even though I was up early. If I had purchased before 8am I would have had free p&p.

Ah well, that's my thirds Xmas pressie bought in a week so can't really complain.

I'm wondering if I should get her. Texture boutique and put it away for her birthday. Stampin up are selling the off at about £16 and I'm placing an order in a couple of weeks.
