Bob Arctor Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 If so, have you seen this, and what do you think? http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/sep/08/unite-union-gave-len-mccluskey-400000-loan-to-buy-london-flat I am not happy about it. I get that Unite get the money back and can't lose financially, so it's effectively a kind of lease arrangement. What I object to is any general secretary of any union living in a £700,000 apartment when we are contending with job insecurity, wage cuts and all the rest of it. How can someone represent us when their lifestyle is so removed from our own?

How can someone represent us when their lifestyle is so removed from our own? I am in Unison. I do not object to the big bosses getting big bosses wages. Can they do anything for us whilst the power of unions is low; that will not change how ever much money they spend. Unison is cheaper, if that helps, it would help more if unions were not so expensive, about £7 per month.

Your rich fat cat living directly off money from the poor is good where as everybody else's rich fat cat supposedly living off money that ought to be confiscated for poor is a monster.
whiteowl Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I'm in Unite - not seen this, certainly food for thought

Since when have union members been classed as poor? Mark Serwotka and other head union leaders could give Theresa May some tips and knock spots off her.
unbeliever Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 The problem is the lack of competition between unions to offer the best value for money for the service they provide. That service being supporting employees , and representing employees' interests to employers. Some unions have a complete monopoly over some jobs and there is no choice of union at all. What incentive then do they have to be efficient and maximise the quality of the service they provide? ---------- Post added 09-09-2016 at 10:59 ---------- Since when have union members been classed as poor? There is a union set up be the Conservative party, hardly a monopoly.
unbeliever Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 There is a union set up be the Conservative party, hardly a monopoly. I genuinely don't understand this sentence.

You may not be a member of Unite, but presumably you still have an opinion about this.. you have no problem with it?
