Bitcoin (and other cryptocurrencies) only really work as a medium of exchange, rather than a store of value. It's true that if you had invested in bitcoin, rather than say, property, hedge funds, gold, oil, the dollar, pound or euro, futures, derivatives, pork bellies or frozen concentrated orange jiuce, you would still not have done as well as if you had invested in bitcoin.

 

The risk, of course, was much higher.

 

It opened the world's eyes to cryptocurrency, but I think it's too cumbersome in it's present form.
