I read something recently about salmon ladders being added to weirs on the Don. Could the work be part of this?

The Environment Agency seem to be adding fish ladders to many of the weirs under their control. This is the best time of year to do it when river levels should be at their lowest.

I saw them doing this in Dovedale a fortnight ago, although it's a much smaller weir

They are also working on the weir next to Penistone Road, near Kelham Island. I was wondering what they were doing, salmon ladders would be ace.

I'm not sure what you want, information is not difficult to find, have a read of what is called 'The Lower Don Valley Flood Defence Project'

Thanks for the links, Mike.

That'll be why Weedon Street was closed at the junction of Brightside Lane and Meadowhall Road at the weekend.

I can confirm it's the Salmon runs....

I was stood talking to one of the workers yesterday who told me what they were doing...

They are doing it to every Weir in Sheffield, so the fish can get back up-stream! :)
