Hello Everyone!!

I'm from India. I will be moving to Sheffield with my family (myself, my wife and our 1 year old daughter). My work assignment requires me to work from Sheffield for 1.5 - 2 years. And my office would be in Hillsborough (S6) area.

I read a lot of threads in this forum and I'm inclined towards Crookes, Fulwood, Walkley, Hillsborough, Meersbrook & Woodseats in S6/S10/S8 post code areas (in no particular order/preference).

our preference would be

[1]a SAFE neighborhood (should be family friendly),

[2]the commute to my workplace should be easy (access to tram etc.),

[3]easy access to parks & shops &

[4]a house with 2 beds (bed rooms) around £600 - £700

As my assignment duration is less than 2 years, we are not concerned about the proximity to schools.

Looking forward to hear your opinions.

Thanks,

Sam

If you going to work in S6 then Hillsborough or Crookes and Walkley.

Hillsborough has the tram which will take you to the City centre and Meadowhall. Crookes and part of Walkley will give you access to the No 52 bus. That bus will take you to Hillsborough and the town centre via Broomhill.

But then saying that you could also consider Broomhill although it can be close to student houses.

There is also Stannington that has a super tram link bus as does Middlewood, Outibridge, Wharncliffe Side, Deepcar.

I wouldn't consider Meersbrook or Woodseats not because they're bad areas but due to the commute could be a nightmare. If work office is Hillsborough look for local areas Stannington/Hillsborough/Walkley. As Gerrybooth mentioned Tramlink bus can get you to other places further north Middlewood, Oughtibridge, Wharncliffe Side, Deepcar/Stocksbridge. Fulwood is an option if the commute to work is by car wouldn't recommend it by public transport. Hillsborough/Oughtibridge both have nice parks, Hillsborough has a lot more shops but also has the football ground i avoid Hillsborough if SWFC are playing at home. Oughtibridge not alot of shops but was a quite area don't know if that's still the case. Hope this helps.

Hi Sam,

Going to make the argument for the area just north of Hillsborough, if you look on Maps it is to the north-west of Hillsborough Park, between Dykes Hall/Worrall Road and Middlewood Road leading up to Langsett Ave.

We live near the park in this area and it is a good place to live. Very well connected (tram/main-road network) with plenty of shops and things to do. The park is very child-friendly and in the summer is heaving with people enjoying a day out. Houses are not as expensive as they are in Fulwood & Ranmoor but there is a good diverse stock. Speaking of diverse, the population is diverse as well, lots of different nationalities/cultures. Mainly because the excellent connection to the University draws in PG students and postdocs and so on.

We've lived here 10 years now (I'm an immigrant from the Netherlands) and like it a lot. For more 'hustle and bustle' go nearer to the park (parking does become an issue, although obviously not if you have no car ;) ) for more quiet suburban life go away from the park.

The tram runs all the way to the end of Langsett Avenue (on Middlewood Road) so you can get to lots of places from there after a short walk, be aware though, Langsett Avenue itself is STEEP!

Try drawing this area out on Rightmove.co.uk and see if there is anything that appeals to you, I'd wager it would be hard not to find something ;)

Hillsborough is lovely. Been living there for over a year, and the housing is very affordable, good schools, lots of shops, easy link on tram to city centre. Really enjoy living here.
