It was gone this morning so I think it might be a work van. It has 'Motorway Maintenance' on the back and red/fluorescent yellow chevrons, but no sign-writing on the side.

There are 40 houses on my street, and each house seems to have more than one vehicle, so it affects a lot of people.

If someone was involved in a collision because they had to exit the road with no visibility, it would be deemed their fault, even though it would be neither party's fault. I certainly can't afford an insurance increase.

Yes, you would be at fault, unfortunately. However, I believe that the driver of the badly parked vehicle could also be done for an offence.

Maybe, but a reduction in available parking spaces doesn't suddenly validate unsafe parking.

If I left a note, they probably wouldn't move the van because they would struggle to find another space. Parking is scarce around here because everyone seems to have multiple vehicles.

We are lucky, we have a double driveway, but like I said, my partner would not have moved somewhere that you have to park his work van on the road.

I don't like to complain, it's only because it is dangerous. It is leaving my neighbours with no other choice than to put themselves in danger every time they drive. I know you should not exit a junction without knowing the road is clear, but otherwise we would just be sat there forever.

I did consider writing them a note, but I don't know how to address the issue in a nice, polite way but also effectively. Any ideas?

I wouldn`t bother with that if I were you, my experience is that isn`t likely to go down well and even less likely to be effective. Near my shop parking is very much at a premium. A chap in a "sportified" Ford Focus always parks about a third of a car length from the end of the marked parking bays. Depending on how other cars park that could very well mean a car space wasted. I put a very polite letter on his windscreen. The guy comes into my shop effing and balling like you`d never believe, in fact I couldn`t believe it ! The interesting thing is he was totally unwilling in actually talking at all. I`d always thought that road rage was mainly caused because people never actually talk to each other, breakdown in communication and all that, they`re in their little metal boxes thinking they`re king of the road and totally insulated from everyone else...... But it did at least prove to me that people who drive aggressively are far more likely to be aggressive generally (he drives too fast, even on the streets round here), something I`d often thought to be the case.,

There used to be a public service type advert on TV, warning against parking close to a junction. It showed a woman trying to cross with a pram, if I remember correctly. Maybe they should restart it.

The police might take an interest if they keep getting the same complaint.

Absolutely. I think any parking which stops the proverbial wheel chair (or pram) from getting past is totally unacceptable. The only people who are entitled to guaranteed parking are those whose house has off road parking. Having said that even that isn`t the case, where we used to live we`d get cretins parking across our drive. Now that is ignorant.

I thought it was 10m during the night and 20m during the day?

The council only deal with regulations relating to yellow lines.

Rotherham Council dealt with my complaint regarding parents on the school run parking and waiting on the junction near where i live, said they would look into the problem and monitor it. Yellow lines went down in May, job done.

You were lucky. The policeman I spoke to said that even if double yellows were drawn they hadn't got the manpower to enforce it.

In the next village double yellow line have been drawn to prevent bad parking.

However due to lack of manpower there will only be checks on two days a week for a short time each day.

The days will be chosen at random!

Big deterrent I don't think.

I sent an email to the local policing team, I just noticed a car parked badly with its rear end sticking out. Turns out to have no car tax. It was only 2 days ago, not heard anything yet.

I would not park like that for a few hours, this car has been like this for a few days.

You're not meant to according to the highway code.

Rule 243

DO NOT stop or park: opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space

does rule 243 relate to buses as well
