The Pope is making Mother Teresa into a saint today but everyone should be questioning why he is doing this to a woman who caused more suffering than she stopped. This documentary by Christopher Hitchens explains why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65JxnUW7Wk4

I don't think it even gets as far as reasons not to make her a saint, there are no reasons to make her a saint in the first place (by that I mean she doesn't meet the requirements).

I watched this documentary a few years ago. I am certainly no fan of the Catholic Church but even I was surprised by just how awful Mother Teresa was.

The worst part as far as I am concerned is despite supposedly believing that suffering bought people closer to God, which is why she denied people beds or medication that could have saved their lives, when she became ill she flew to Switzerland to receive some of the best medical treatment in the world. The hypocrisy is outstanding.

I thought the requirements were pretty straightforward:

1) have a strict catholic upbringing

2) be male

3) live to a very old age

I've nailed 1 & 2, just gotta work on 3 and I'll be joining them :)

Well apparently her spirit performed the two miracles that are required to be canonised. She supposedly cured someones stomach tumour, and someone else's brain abscesses.

Can you believe that people in this day and age actually believe this nonsense!

At least now the horrible woman is dead she can't do any more harm.

Unfortunately the very concept of saints and miracles harms people.

Catholics now believe that praying to Mother Teresa can cure people of fatal illnesses - I am sure some people will put their faith in miracles as opposed to relying on medical treatment, which will cause them to die unnecessarily.

All this religious malarkey is just too daft to laugh at. Some human making people better by praying for them, or indeed the terminally ill saved by praying to a dead Saint, aye watch out a pig has just flown past the window.

Hocus pocus at it's best.
