I knew her well, we used to travel home from the Locarno back in the 60's, she was a lovely girl I should have taken her more serious, wish I had now. xmoonshinex   10 #28 Posted October 30, 2016 What was the square concrete area on the Lansbury Road rec? It was a large square shape with concrete walls about 12" high on 4 sides. On the front wall there was a gap probably the width of 2 doorways. It was next to the swings, not the roundabout side though. probably a sandpit for the kids  Yes it was a sand pit back in the day. I worked for the 'thermal insulation' (pipe lagging etc). Pete Somerset -a Pitsmoor bloke like me- passed away a few years ago from an 'industrial related illness', as for Edgar Todd he was from Belfast but I refrain from comment ,tho' I have nothing against Irishmen. It existed in 1916 when and where my Wife's father was born. Anyone knowing, could you relate the location to an existing street today ?  I'm sure its the one about half way down Station Rd on the left, it once had terraced houses all the way down but the middle ones were demolished in the early 70's (not sure why), it was also the scene of a tragic fire in the 80's.  Sorry this is Ashland Rd that I’ve described.
