Reg played 149 games for SUFC between 1958 and 1968 before moving to Fulham.

This was the era when both Sheffield clubs had Sheffield born and bred players.

Sadly, he passed away 29 August aged 77.

I think he replaced the legendary Joe Shaw in '66. Certainly a very hard act to follow.

 

Boy I'm starting to feel old remembering all these former players and contemporaries who are shuttling off, all too frequently nowadays, to the great football pitch in the sky!

Never saw Reg Matthewson play..but can remember his nephew Trevor playing a few games for Wednesday back in the 80's,before spending a number of years at Birmingham.

I was gonna ask if he was a relative of Trevors I once met another relative of his who worked for a fire safety company.
