Help with housing/council tax

Recommended Posts

Does anyone work for the Sheffield city council?

I work 20 hours a week.

I get paid monthly around £650-£700 depending on bonus.

I pay £90 a week rent and £67 a month council tax.

I pay £82 a month child support.

About £80 in fuel.

I eat basic stuff.

I have tried the benefits calculator on line and I'm not eligible for help.

Is this true?

Are you claiming the Single Person Discount on your Council Tax? (25%)

So on a bad month you have £31 for food? You must live off aldi beans and toast.

Is there no option for you to work more hours? I have no clue what sort of benefits would be available, sorry.

I would say at sixty odd pound a month he must be as I believe band A is around £90 in most areas.

There is a thing called 'Discretionary Housing and Council Tax Hardship Scheme. Have you tried that?

Do you like the job? If so could you do a second job? It's win, win as you'll earn more and spend less time at home (lower heating and electric bills).

I imagine that the benefits office would exclude people in your situation as you could always work more hours, unless you have a reason you can't.

Go and see CAB for a full benefits check.

Thanks I'll try that.

I can't stand the job but money isn't bad for what I do..beats minimum wage.

If it's for one child that does not live with you, and you have no children at home also, you are paying too much. You should pay no more than £17 per week.

Well hopefully you'll find something that you like and offers 40 hours a week, even on min wage you should have around £1112 after tax which leaves you in a much better position.
