Fed up of hit and run/bump merchants

Just been To Bakewell, went to pick up the car after parking it, someone, a van driver? has dented right along the tailgate and left commercial yellow paint all along it. I parked in two different car parks, but the second one, is opposite a police station with CCTV(Granby St) trying to see if i can identify the offender, its happened a number of times, why won't the offender do the decent thing and leave a number?

I've had it so many times in carparks with dents and scrapes. My OH even had someone leave a fake number.

 

One of my neighbours even told me they'd seen another neighbour scrape my car with his. When I asked him how he wanted to deal with it, he tried to deny it even then, with an independent witness. Seems people have a special blind spot when it comes to dealing with damaging someone else's property.

I had the side of my car stoved in in one of the NGH car parks - lovely surprise when I returned to my car after an unplanned 12 hour shift.

In car parks I park my car miles from others to avoid this. And for the exercise, as that normally means I'm in a different post code to the front door of the store

Good move, but with staycations this year, many car parks are packed full.

 

i am hoping the CCTV will nail him or her, but will Derbyshire Council do anything about it.

 

If they identify him, do i have to go through small claims, I am not going to let this rest.

If the CCTV footage is useful, pass all of the details onto your insurer and ask them to pursue the other driver.

I do this too wherever possible. Although there have been times where no matter how empty the car park is, someone will avoid the acres of space and park right next to it. I call it Lonely Car Syndrome

And when you come back, there's always someone that thought you looked lonely and so still parked next to you!

Your own insurance will take it up if you have legal cover and report it to them.

You're correct.

 

I parked in a supermarket car park last week which was quite empty. I parked almost as far away from the store as possible, with literally dozens of empty spaces round me.

 

When I came back, there were still dozens of empty spaces around me. Except for the one on the driver's side, where a crappy, matt red, million year old Micra had been parked literally 10 inches from my driver's door... Why do people do this for crying out loud...

I have had aa better experience. A small shop near me had one of its vans bump into my car parked on a side street once. They left me full details. I went to the shop and they wanted to sort it privately, but I insisted they deal with my insurance company. Turns out, the replace the small reflector on my bumper was going to cost over £1000. They were not too impressed but did the right thing in the first place.

 

One thing to remember, Private CCTV is there for the owner and not for you and in most cases they will not want to help you. Ive heard of many people in similar situations as the OP and even companies like Tesco's etc will refuse to help out.
