Such a shame that we can't trust people not to steal from charity.

I agree. Best thing to do is to chain the charity box onto something. Unfortunately, Charities experience a lot of thievery because they are seen as easy targets. And not always from who you think. There's those who thieve who you kind of expect to be thieving, & then there's the whole respectable middle class kind who are just as bad. Label swapping, damaging stock to get a price reduction, false claims for refunds etc. I even caught a teacher once changing the prices on stuff to get it cheaper. One of the most prolific tea leaves in our area is a chap who up front seems to be a lovely bloke & talks to everyone, all the charity old dears love him. We caught him red handed nicking (of all things) a Jesus on a crucifix

We need to fundraise around £350k every year to offer our services and collection boxes tend to bring in between £10-12,000 for us. That's a huge amount for us and we rely on impulse donations from local people to keep us going.

We hsve had several stolen from Tesco including one for the Childrens hospital luckily we got him oon cctv he is known to the police and yes ours were chained up
