Opening a museum

Recommended Posts

Great meeting tonight with 7 attendees. 1 from the forum has supported through advice and promotional materials.

One very interesting idea that has been developed is to try and link up with local golf clubs in the area to develop nearest the pin events and develop a link up. An event with a wooden spoon for last place and an engraved pin as a prize. The view to co promote two pin based businesses. Museum visitors can get golf discounts. Golfers can be signposted to the museum and get possible discounts.

Potentially a school trip trip....twin pins ....1/2 day golf taster 1/2 day museum. Adding 2 dynamic activities to the school curriculum.

Pardon the pun.....but we are on a roll!

Co-promoting two pin businesses is a great idea...

... but what you really need to do is to form a partnership with a bowling alley...

because co-promoting ten pin businesses would be even better! :P

Agree wholeheartedly....I think idea of locating in Thorpe hesley is great for many reasons..... rail stations... motorway...3 local education authorities on border... near golf course and bowling alley in kimberworth ...near elsecar heritage centre...near farms see below

There has also been some thought given to 1/2 day trips to potato farms in locality and more emphasis on mashers in the museum with children

I do not know if there are egg producers we could work with and then whisk the children back to whisk world in the afternoon

Hopefully giving children knowledge of where their food comes from and the possibilities of being creative with hand tools in the kitchen as our ancestors were inspire and tie in with a healthy eating agenda too

Thank you for your encouragement....it should silence some of those that are sniggering

As you were talking about the hoards of visitors expected and brown signs on motorways have you even looked at costs for this?

The following from the highways agency website...

As the applicant, you will need to cover the cost of any agreed tourist signs. A single sign may cost £8,000 to £20,000 to design and install if sited on a single or dual carriageway, depending on the size of the sign. A single motorway sign may cost £17,000 to £40,000. Many design options are available; the Highways England has provided these costs ranges give you an indication of your possible outlay.

So 10-15 brown signs are going to be 400-500k or so

I think this will start to look like loose change when viewed against the sheer avalanche of forecast footfall

The trouble with asking for help on a Forum is that someone steals your idea.

Follow this link to the world's first dedicated Rolling Pin museam (Spoiler - its not in Hoyland Common, or Thorpe Hesley)

You need to locate it near a working windmill and use artisan flour. The windmill will be marked on OS maps and with any luck have appeared on Tripeadvisor.

I'd suggest that Elsecar is a better location than Thorpe Hesley because of the superior transport link from Chapeltown.

It might well be an idea to keep your powder dry until you know if South Yorkshire is going to have an HS2 station as one of the HS2 trains will have far greater capacity than a couple of coaches.
