Squiggs   11 #229 Posted August 19, 2016 By the time we get a tunnel, the Star Trek transporter will have been invented. In Japan.
 Share this content via...
Brian Equato   10 #230 Posted August 19, 2016 what was the objection from this side - just general opposition to building on countryside?  The objections were for the extra traffic the bypass would attract to Woodhead so probably came mainly from the Penistone area. Jeffrey Shaw   90 #232 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) I really can't believe they're still trying to build up our hopes with this scheme. Well, it's not called the Hope Valley for nothing...  And that will be held up for decades with legal challenges, just like the Mottram bypass. But this bypass would cost virtually nothing in comparison to the tunnel. Or 'tunnels' as there are five schemes on display, of which four connect up the M67 [not the M60] to the M1. ANGELFIRE1   10 #235 Posted August 19, 2016 According to the Barnsley Chronicle this much needed bypass will cost £161 billion. Five routes have been identified,One on the outskirts of Sheffield off the A57. The other four been Junction 35A M1, north of junction 37M1 near A635 Cawthorne, and off the A61 A611.  Angel1. alchresearch   214 #237 Posted August 19, 2016 Chances are they'll go ahead with the mottram bypass instead  Sadly that is just a tiny stretch of road, see pic:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longdendale_Bypass#/media/File:Longdendale_Bypass_Map.PNG  If they can't sort that out in the decades its been planned and argued, I can't see the tunnel ever getting started. geared   303 #238 Posted August 19, 2016 Yea I agree, the pace at which things have gone is just glacial so you really have to take any kind of public announcement with a pinch of salt.
 Share this content via...
ANGELFIRE1 Â Â 10 #239 Posted August 19, 2016 A tunnel seems to be the preferred method around the A61 A611. Apparently the traffic will be funneled from the Woodhead, Snake and the M62 towards this tunnel. Junction 35 also seems to be another starting point that would get traffic funneled to it. Jeffrey Shaw   90 #240 Posted August 19, 2016 But then the traffic would have to head from southern parts of Sheffield quite a long way north. Whereas A57 Snake is just up Manchester Road.
 Share this content via...
