Cold calling 'Tree Surgeons'

I don't buy at the door and hate it when we get people pestering - they don't tend to hang around for long though as our dog (a rescued dobermann) doesn't like people knocking on its front door either and tells them so very loudly and with sufficient vigour to discourage further knocking.

I interrupt their spiel immediately they start and say very loudly: 'No thank you, I don't need anything, but thanks for calling'. and shut the door. I have been doing this for many years and it always works a treat because you don't allow them to say anything but you sound reasonably polite, even though the thanks for calling is tongue in cheek.
