Grahame 10 #37 Posted March 12, 2006 Mount Zion was demolished a long time ago and there is a TV mast there now. I have heard that story about seeing Blackpool tower from the top so many times, I wonder how it came about. It can't be true can it? I have always always always wondered what the view from atop the Norton watertower would hold.......... if you look up at it from town - its prominence would offer sights to behold IMO! Billy24 10 #39 Posted March 12, 2006 Living in Rotherham I can only come up with Boston Castle like fellow poster Alchresearch. The view from the castle is outstanding, the hills of Derbyshire are clearly visible in the distance and blimey how many miles is that away from Rotherham?. Definitely worth a drive out to look at. Follow signs for Rotherham Hospital, it's the road on which the Belvedere pub stands, a mile from the hospital.
 Share this content via...
S92DA 10 #40 Posted March 12, 2006 The wasteland at the junction with Andover St/ Gray St in Burngreave gives one a great view down into the city at night. Needless to say it helps to be in a suitably liviered vehicle to get away with this.
 Share this content via...
al_partridge 10 #41 Posted March 13, 2006 Mount Zion was demolished a long time ago and there is a TV mast there now. I have heard that story about seeing Blackpool tower from the top so many times, I wonder how it came about. It can't be true can it? It's really hardly likely, is it? Even without the Pennines in the way! Somebody who was a bit stupid probably once saw chimney near Ladybower or something and the story grew from there
 Share this content via...
Grahame 10 #42 Posted March 13, 2006 Yes I thought about the Pennines, anyway I won’t elaborate I may make myself look sillier than ever. My father told me that when I was about ten, he heard it from his father, and I have heard it from so many other people since, it must be the original “urban myth.”
 Share this content via...
maxismydog 10 #43 Posted March 13, 2006 It depends which part of Sheffield you want views of. A good view of the East End can be got from the top of Wincobank Hill.
 Share this content via...
eighty4 10 #44 Posted March 13, 2006 Enjoy! I have always always always wondered what the view from atop the Norton watertower would hold.......... if you look up at it from town - its prominence would offer sights to behold IMO! I went to norton free school and every year one class would get to visit it.It was amazing, no lifts just stairs and a lot of them at that, the view from the top was great you could see for miles. You can even see the water tower from certain parts of rotherham (bawty road)
 Share this content via...
