£1bn Chinese investment in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Would that be the John Mothersole who is paid more than the Prime Minister to run our council whilst at the same time allowing the likes of Julie Dore to take credit for things she hasn't an ounce of understanding about?

People slag of our councillors, justifiably for being thick as mud, but just remember who has the real power....the person who is paid £100k+, not the councillor who got a few hundred votes in their ward and who claims expenses whilst being basically lobby fodder for their party chief.

Yep that would be the same one and you are right about the councillors being thick as mud . A real question here because I honestly don't know . Who employed /employs John Mothersole ?

It's amazing how little real information we seem to get about things that concern us, yet things allegedly happen after 'consultations' with the Sheffield public.

Nobody has ever 'consulted' with me or anyone I know about anything.

I agree with paula4sheff, that it's about time Sheffield Star engaged in some real journalism and told us about the important things that are being done. And the Council could help with a decent, easy access Sheffield Council website instead of the antiquated specimen that hasn't been updated for years.

i LOVE seeing a post with "end of" whiten

its when the poster has decided that their opinion, often with zero merit. is the be all and end all

its generally wrong.

but does serve to educate the rest of us as to which poster to stick on our ignore list

So show us how £1 billion comes to Sheffield.

Who would have thought that ? :( I think it was John Mothersole who said when the deal was signed " whats not to like about that" . The point is none of us Know what the deal is , or what "that" is .

Mothersole won't even tell elected members the detail of the deal. Draw your own conclusions about that

I imagine this 'investment' was pitched to other cities' leaders before ours - still feeling a bit sheepish about the Sevenstone fiasco- foolishly lapped it up, salivating over the glorious headlines and praise they could foresee. Could be wrong like..

Meanwhile, anymore news on the new retail quarter? And I don't mean the one office block with some shops underneath.:o

The Chinese-funded building at the corner of Bramall Lane and St Mary's Gate seems to nearing completion, despite your doubts.

I didn't think that had anything to do with this 1 billion deal

Indeed it is a completely separate set of investors, just shows we don't necessarily need government interference to organise the redevelopment in our city.

The Chinese investors, the shenanigans over trees and the collapse of the city region deal etc etc are just showing how incompetent and secretive this council ruling group has become, we need rid of them.

No surprise, I predicted this last year. Sheffield/china are growing friendly intimate relations.

What is in it for you?

Maybe Sheffield will become a live buzzing business centre again, these Chinese know how to do it.

Well let's hope so, because the Sheffielder's have no idea how to do it, as evidenced by the last 50 years or more.

The secretive way they operate is truly terrifying, and only suggests corruption, or at best, major incompetence. Deals using our money and impacting on our lives shouldn't be so secret- simply there should be nothing to hide.

Totally agree. This secretiveness flies in the face of socialism which would have promoted inclusiveness. Completely lost their way.

I preferred it when it was derelict land and had shrubbery with that many discarded needles if you stuck your hand in it'd have come out like a second hand dartboard.

Damn these foreign investors!

It might have been an eyesore and a health hazard to boot, but it was our health hazard!
