Chelle-82 Â Â 10 #2 Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) I walk through this park every morning, noticed this morning that the grass is in really bad shape near the bottom carpark.. Â I do believe that part of the field also gets boggy quite often when it rains without the help of a fair/circus being held on it.. Â A few more events coming up too shortly so let's see how it goes. Edited June 28, 2016 by Chelle-
 Share this content via...
tzijlstra   11 #3 Posted June 28, 2016 There are too many events in the park, the council is using it to make money.
 Share this content via...
bassett one   452 #4 Posted June 28, 2016 theres hill fest a huge event and swfc fun day both these attract thousands of people plus the funfair is back again, how many events can one park take? the council must be making huge amounts, trust they spend it on that park? or is it just put in the scc pot. hsb98c   19 #5 Posted June 28, 2016 To be fair to SCC, someone must have thought we'd be having nicer weather and that the grass would cope, as it has done in previous years.  Most of the damage has been done by the downpours we got over the weekend. Without that it would be in a much better state and able to cope.
 Share this content via...
bessmeg   10 #6 Posted June 28, 2016 I for one am glad to see Hillsborough park been used for events, for a big major city there are far to few events to go and see/enjoy ,,more power to the people who organized these events good on them, Maybe they should hold more event their encouraging people to get there using the tram or buses to which it is well severed by, Good events do make money for people that is in part what there about! Whether it be the council ,local business etc, I am sure the grass will quickly recover, if needs be with the help of the on-site council gardeners there. escort1 Â Â 10 #7 Posted June 28, 2016 Who ever books this type of event pays a non refundable bond to cover any ground damage. That is why sometimes events of this nature get cancelled at short notice. a few years ago Farrar's Funfair's left a mess at Rotherham as it rained heavy whilst they were there, i know for a fact they paid to put it right ( it was in the Star at the time). I would doubt though that there will be time to put it right before next weekends event which if this heavy rain continues could quite easily get cancelled. robjb   10 #8 Posted June 28, 2016 I agree that it's good that it's being used and efforts are being made, looking forward to the Hillsfest. Really unfortunate the amount of rain at the weekend, more disappointed that all the rubbish didn't seem to have been cleared as that is attainable? cytine   40 #9 Posted June 28, 2016 Went to Hillsborough park on Sunday the weather was lovely but it rained heavily on Saturday so it was like a quagmire, nobody's fault so no complaints about that. There was a funfair, great I like a funfair, plenty of food places, very few stalls though. No displays by the military and emergency services or others. It was a bit disappointing
 Share this content via...

It was a bit disappointing[/QUOT None of these displays were part of this show unlike the old Sheffield Show, but things advertised for this one did take place, arena events, falconry, vintage cars, buses and scooters, music stage, food stalls, trade stalls, community stalls, Graves park scarecrow making ans a fun fair. I was there and saw all these things but unfortunately heavy rain on the Saturday had left its mark on parts of the ground.
 Share this content via...
cytine   40 #11 Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) Escort1, Funnily enough I saw all those things as well. Like I said the ground conditions couldn't be helped but in my opinion the old Sheffield Show was better lots more to see.. bassett one   452 #12 Posted June 29, 2016 that's the problem people always compare the old one that had thousands to spend on acts and the new one without huge amounts of council cash, although I do believe that kiddies rides should be free to help familys in these hard times,we at lowedges have secured 6 free this year at only a small cost to hire, but lets hope the scc can dig deep to help as its is the Sheffield show, although they don't offer us a large amount.
