Are there any coin shops in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Not sure this is in the right place or not!

Is there shop that buys coins in Sheffield?

I have found a few pre 1947 coins that dad gave me years ago, half crowns, florins and shillings which I believe have some silver value.

There are also hundreds (a biscuit tin full) of old pennies, half pennies, threepenny pieces and sixpences which I suspect are pretty worthless, unless there are some rare ones in there!

If you've got a 1933 penny I'll give you a tenner for it. :)

I doubt they'll have a 1933 Penny, as they never actually went into production and there's only 4 or 5 in existence....

Most half crowns, florins etc are worthless, I have piles of them sitting here, and loads of old pennys and half pennys too....

as for silver value, it all depends on the year as to how much silver is in them.... (for Shilling)

(1503-1816) 100% Silver

(1816–1920) 92.5% Sterling Silver

(1920–1946) 50% Sterling Silver

(1947–1970) Cupronickel

Hi, I you are thinking of selling coin's or a collection of coin's there use to be two coin come stamp shops in town unfortunatly they have now closed a sign of the times and the lack of intrest in stamp and coin collecting and not much use to you but depending where you live have you heard of Elsecar Heritage Centre five minutes the other side of Chapeltown heading to Barnsley or J36 M1 follow the brown sign's, they have antiques fairs and there is a chap who has a stall who specialises in coins, watches and militaria, any thing before 1945 such as sixpences, shillings, florens, halfcrowns have a good silver content so condition not to important and bought on weight, copper threepenny bits, farthings, halfpennys and pennys lot's about so not much value there.

May help you.
