Allen   38 #25 Posted May 16, 2016 Instead of spending time poking fun at foxy lady perhaps someone could explain why...... Why?  Why have all the jobs gone overseas. The mines have closed. The steel industry is now being sold off. Most people now drive cars manufactured overseas.. Have a look in your kitchen....most appliances will have "made in xxx" rather than the uk.  And the government says we are better off staying in the EU? dutch   68 #27 Posted May 17, 2016 (edited) I don't know, is it because China is leaving the EU?  Based on your earlier post you tried very hard to give the impression you know everything. It is good to see you are coming of that high horse and start asking questions again.  By the way, people may not hate the banks, but if they intensely loved these banks, those jobs would have probably stayed in Sheffield out of appreciation. Perhaps they have heard HS2 won't actually be stopping in Sheffield, and the Northern Powerhouse is not going to be round here. arrowhead   21 #30 Posted May 17, 2016 I left school to do Computing Science at University back in the late 80's, with the promise that "there will always be a career in IT" ringing in my ears... 25 years later I am still employed in that sector, but would no longer recommend it as long term career for my own kids. Even with (seemingly) valuable skills, there really is no future in it in this country, with the constant push to increase shareholder value by outsourcing to cheaper countries.  I have worked with lots of techies from India and Eastern Europe.... .  Excellent synopsis and spot on. And not a hint of bickering.... Now how do some people achieve that...!
 Share this content via...
foxy lady   10 #31 Posted May 17, 2016 re: car manufacture Quote: The automotive industry in the UK turned over £59.3 billion in 2012 and accounts for around 10% of all UK exports. In 2013 more than 1.5 million cars and more than 2.5 million engines were produced in the UK according to the SMMT. And  Quote: Germany was responsible for over half (60 %) of total extra-EU motor car exports; apart from Germany, the United Kingdom was the only Member State to show a positive trade balance of noticeable size. Helps to know the facts when having a rant.  But the reality is..  UK car manufacturing reaches 10-year high, growing 3.9% to 1,587,677 vehicles. More cars exported than ever before, up 2.7% on previous year at 1,227,881. UK new car sales hit an all-time record last year, the latest trade industry figures show.  Some 2.63 million new vehicles were registered in 2015, up about 6% on 2014 and the fourth consecutive year of growth, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said.  So we manufactured 1,587,677 sold 1,227,881 abroad leaving 359796 UK manufactured cars to be registered here. But UK buyers bought 2,630,000 vehicles. So 2,270,204 vehicles were sold in the UK that weren't manufactured here.
 Share this content via...

dutch   68 #34 Posted May 17, 2016 Anyone who intensely loves banks probably needs medication. Anyone who intensely loves banks that evade tax, launder criminal money and defraud the British Public is probably an idiot.  Banks don't give two hoots whether people love them, and the idea that a little tender lovin' for banks would keep them in this country is beyond satire.  True love is something very beautiful and makes the world a better place. I can confirm your concern that love bound to any object like a person or a bank is not true love, it is more a kind of emotional dependency on the object. The real idiots who need medication are those who think money and banks are more important than a loving caring environment that keeps local jobs in its own environment.  Is Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation going to reduce fees or make large payments to charities for unemployed people with the money saved? These banks who don't give a hoot are in bigger need of treatment than caring loving people. Anyone who thinks the bankers way is right and loving people are idiots are in my eyes nothing more than poor slaves of the system who have forgotten how to live a true loving life. Anna B Â Â 1,401 #35 Posted May 17, 2016 HSBC cares nothing for its customers. The branch in Chapeltown closed down in April, the branch in Meadowhall employs no people and is totally automated. Frankly I think everybody should ditch trading with HSBC, (not that they'll give a damn,) and find a better bank. Â Anybody know a good bank that cares about its customers and lowly employees?
