Hi Everyone,

Lately my I've been getting a lot of junk calls & texts saying Ive won money, vouchers or that my name has been tagged somewhere. Just now I received a call from 08454290020 saying I've won £500 of highstreet vouchers. I instantly hung up and blocked the number.

Then about 5min later I receive a text saying "Free MSG. Danny your name was mentioned in this photo http://zokobo.com/c/d?i=2jcb9bDACr".

Often you can reply STOP to txt messages and it will remove you from the list, most phones have call and text barring/ignore too, just add the number

Register your phone number here.

I've not had a single call since registering.

For messages, you can report the number to your network.

Orange, O2, T-Mobile and Three: Forward the SMS to 7726

Vodafone: Forward the SMS to VSPAM (87726)

Should I reply STOP?

We do not have any evidence that replying to such a message will stop further unsolicited texts. We would therefore advise that you ignore it and not reply. We believe that these messages are sent via a computer and replies will also be received by a computer. Thus, replies with any other messages will not be read by a person, and simply ignored.

The regulators are well aware of the problem with spam SMS and are currently working closely with network operators and industry experts to both stop these messages.

On android phones you can get a free blocker app, I just blocked a 0845 number that I phoned back and nothing. Then checked it on one of these who called you sites, and was proven to be scam bs.

It's always worked for me, STOP, or NOINFO....

But Android and iOS both have blocking and barring for Texts and Calls, so it's pretty easy to do

not sure if it works for mobiles too but I report nuisance calls to ICO - they are the folks who actually prosecute nuisance call companies and the more evidence they have the easier it is for them

ICO will only take action against non malicious unsolicited calls if you are registered with TPS (that I have linked to above). And it does now include mobile numbers.
