The City General Hospital 1930 - 1967 issued a bronze hospital badge with the Nightingale lamp engraved on it and the initials C. G. H across the top.

There was also a silver and blue badge, again with the Nightingale lamp on but with the full name of City General Hospital across the top.

Does anyone know why there was two badges - was it due to the bronze one being an early one or could it have been to do with some aspect of training? E.g SEN or SRN.

Thanks:confused:

Many thanks - I thought that might have been the reason.

There was also the SEAN too wasn't there? The bronze badge I have doesn't seem to have green on it but maybe that is because the green ?enamel has worn away.

The SEAN's became SEN's when the word "Assistant" was dropped from the job title in c. 1960.

Like this one perhaps. :)

The NGH has changed so much that I hesitate to give a location that would be understood nowadays, but Ward 17 (as of 1969) is in the background of the photo. This was the ward for babies (up to 1 year old) and 10-16 year-olds. Behind the photographer was Ward 16 (ages 1 to 10). Evidently somewhere near the blue dot in this photo. :)
