lindylou53 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hi - my daughter has bought a terraced house in quite good nick except we have noticed some rising damp at bottom of chimney breast wall that wasn't (of course!) there when she looked round. It is an inner terraced house so not an outside wall. It has a cellar and someone has suggested it could be damp rising up from cellar. Anyone know if this is a likely cause or had this problem? Also any recommendations for a builder/damp specialist would be greatly received. Thanks.
jnm roofing Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hi check the cellar walls for signs off damp below where the chimney is situated things like flking paint or plaster falling off if all ok could be that chimney needs reflaunching on the outside where the pots sit for more advice call 07747800596 Hope this helps
lindylou53 Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Thank you - will check when I next go round.
biotechpete Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 The cellar (or the neighbours cellar) would need to extremely damp to get enough damp into the bricks to be drawn upwards. My guess would be either the cap needs looking at or chimney needs ventilating (or both). Is the fireplace bricked up?
