Stealthy postage charge increases.

Recommended Posts

Found out by accident that many Postage charges went up on the 29th. March 2016. Postage stamps, parcel charges, and letter charges included. This was a total surprise to me. Customers in the Post Office were bewildered. I never saw any advance notifications of the increases. Did you ?? Stealthy !!!

If you buy stamps that are marked 1st or 2nd class, rather than an actual value, then these are honoured no matter when you use them to mail a letter, even if that is in 10 years' time.

The BBC announced this increase 3-4 weeks ago. I remember seeing it then.

The increase was on 31st March and publicised in Post Offices. It wasn't "a total surprise" to regular users.

Did you not notice in all the time since the last increase that the postal prices were only valid until 31-3-2016?

The price of a first class stamp has increased by 1p.

The price of a second class stamp has increased by 1p.

Yes I send letters by Email and parcels via Hermes. The Mail is another case of an industry that was protected for decades and struggles to come to terms with the 21st century.
