1978 Â Â 14 #2 Posted March 26, 2016 Those who have been unhappy about road closures for the Great Yorkshire Run 10k for the last 9 years will be pleased to hear that the 10th anniversary event will be on 24th July - in Harrogate! I1L2T3 Â Â 10 #3 Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) There will be advance warning notices in place on roads that will be closed but last year a number of cars still had to be removed from the course. Â Please play your part in contributing to runner safety by not parking on a road that'll be closed on the day. Remember that hundreds of runners will be raising funds for charities and that the race is a great showcase for Sheffield. Stoned   10 #5 Posted March 28, 2016 Its a pity we dont have a big enough stadium where they could complete circuits equalling the total miles for the half marathon. No danger to runners, no problems for emergency services and no road closures.
 Share this content via...

Most of the road are closed for 5 hours at most for ONE DAY!  ---------- Post added 28-03-2016 at 15:36 ----------  Its a pity we dont have a big enough stadium where they could complete circuits equalling the total miles for the half marathon. No danger to runners, no problems for emergency services and no road closures.  Its not as simple as that.  Last year over 6000 people took part in the half marathon.  Have you any idea the chaos that would ensue trying to get over 6000 people completing circuit laps around a running track. I had no idea that many took part.
 Share this content via...
Squiggs   11 #8 Posted March 28, 2016 Sheffield folk are a rum lot  "Look, there's a big event in Leeds, why not in Sheffield, I blame the council, they don't want anything that will put Sheffield on the map, backward thinking loonies"  "Oh No! There's an event on in Sheffield. I DON'T be-LIEEEve it!! Sheffield can't cope with hosting events, why can't they do it somewhere else like Leeds"
 Share this content via...

Sheffield can't cope with hosting events, why can't they do it somewhere else like Leeds"  Or in the case of the Great Yorkshire Run, that has been held in Sheffield for the last 9 years, the 10th anniversary celebration run (and presumably future such runs) will be in Harrogate. Not a great celebration of Sheffield's drawing power.  At least the council helped to rescue the Sheffield Half Marathon after the sad situation that occurred 2 years ago. The run up to Ringinglow and back is a much more challenging course, but a much better advertisement for the country side of Sheffield for visitors. Eater Sundae   12 #10 Posted March 28, 2016 I would suggest you don't rely on the quoted road closure times. The end of Rustling Road was closed well before the advertised time, last year.
 Share this content via...

sgtkate   10 #12 Posted March 29, 2016 Hope they allow access for us that have to go into work  Of course they will. Just drive up tooting your horn and gesticulating at the course marshals and they shall bow and wave you through.
 Share this content via...
