Daven   10 #14 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Wasn't there an issue with the land being 'polluted' in some way ?  http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/what-s-on/new-future-in-the-air-for-old-aerodrome-1-439330  This might answer your question.  http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-827202.html See post 11  I would hazard a guess this is the reason - far too expensive to clear up possibly ? samssong   10 #15 Posted February 12, 2016 I have been told that a delegation from Sheffield Wednesday F.C. have recently given the site a look over.
 Share this content via...
Daven   10 #16 Posted February 12, 2016 And as soon as they find out about the land pollution issue they won't be seen for dust.
 Share this content via...

It is only a few years ago that major plans were mobilised with public consultations over the various options for dealing with the whole site, which was under the control of a quango headed by our very own Bob Kerslake.  Options included housing, park & ride, nature reserve, recycling centre and all sorts of combinations. Housing would have supplied the cash to decontaminate the site and the green belt aspect would have been satisfied with the protected area down the bottom. The the financial crisis hit everything, Bobby got a better job and we've heard nothing since. I'd guess that a bit of searching could pull up the proposals on the SCC website. jezzyjj   10 #18 Posted February 13, 2016 but this is a huge empty site and with land so scarce,it could be used for events, theme park, hospital or something,i am shocked its not used for somethingI seem to recall putting a hospital on the land was going to happen at one point, but like every other idea for the site I guess that in the end it simply wasn't financially viable.
