The Albert near City Hall. They used to have a Dixieland jazz playing upstairs. I'd have been 16 at the time. :o

The Royal Oak in the Shambles, Chesterfield.

The attraction? A ploughman's lunch where you could take as much bread and cheese as you wanted for the fixed price; washed down, of course, with a pint.

Much more inviting as a 15 year old, than the college canteen!

echo.

The Bridge Inn in Bridge Street near the Brewery and Bus station...I was 16 and worked at Hampshires, the printing firm on Penistone Rd. What with the stink of the printing ink/white spirit, a swift half went down very well before going home...happy days...

The brewery that you refer to was Duncan Gilmour's, later taken over by Joshua Tetley (from Leeds) who then closed the place at the loss of many Sheffielder's jobs.
