Harcourt Rd alterations imminent

We asked for the nearby crossing to be fitted with these style beacons via 2 local forums but no reply yet other than "crossing to be upgraded" as part of the safety scheme

It certainly qualifies on the usual incident stats used to prioritise work.

There the same type used on the crossing outside the Botanical Gardens. It seemed logical to fit them while they install the LED street lights.

Good the see the long delayed narrowing going in. The original scheme got lost in the first wave of budget cuts.

Seen far too much aggressive behaviour at that junction by drivers who "forget" rule 170 the as soon as they pass their test. Might help prevent the infamous left hook manoeuvre as well.

I assume it's the junction with Crookes Valley Road - I always use the other side of the road although the junction of Crookes Valley and Oxford Street is hardly the safest in Sheffield.

cars coming up the outside of the uphill queue overtaking the stationary traffic against then peeling into Oxford St on the wrong side of the road by any chance?

Thats a pretty common occurrence I've found.

They're the worst.

I've also known traffic turning left onto Oxford Street failing to give way to pedestrians - ditto for traffic coming up the street.

Must admit I'm not entirely sure this is the right modification to make to this road. Yes, you may get trapped in the middle, but at least there was room for cars to get past to either side of you. Now there won't be so if you're in the middle of the road once they've narrowed it, you're going to be run over. Why go for narrowing the entrance rather than just putting an island in the middle?

It will mean cars have to slow down considerably compared to what they did previously and drivers be able to see the full width of the road and doing what they ought to - giving way to pedestrians already crossing the road.

they should make oxford street one way up hill only

and upperthorpe road downhill simple solution to a lot of problems and i live on oxford street. you would be suprissed how many use the area as rat runs short cuts at over 40 mph some as high as 60 mph in a 20 zone
