smithy266
Apparently, one of the whales beached on the Lincs coast has been brought to one of Sheffield's landfill sites. Why don't they simply bury them there on the beach, or tow them back out to sea?
Glennis
Yes, I heard this too. Maybe they don't have a boat powerful enough to tow them out to sea, its a shame, if this is the case - seems a waste of a potential huge food source for sea creatures. Blackbeard
It's nothing new for Sheffield http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=11116016&highlight=whale#post11116016
DnAuK
Although this was a sad and distressing thing (apart from for those numpties that went trophy hunting and sprayed messaged on the carcasses) I did have a slight chuckle at Look North on Tuesday night when they said the 'delicate process of removing them' would commence. 'Delicate'? Really?? Nothing bloody delicate about bulldozing several tons of whale carcass onto the back of a flatbed! ---------- Post added 28-01-2016 at 08:54 ---------- Yes, I heard this too. Err if they towed them out to sea, chances are they would get washed up again. How you think it happened in the first place?

DnAuK
Depends where you tow it out and release it, doesn't it? I don't know, does it? Do you know where the whales died? What tidal patterns resulted?
vincentb
Err if they towed them out to sea, chances are they would get washed up again. How you think it happened in the first place? Apparently they beached while they were still alive, and died on the beach there. Anyway, if you towed them out to sea then they'd probably float around for a while (gases from decomposition would keep the corpse buoyant) - so the currents might wash it back on to shore if you're unlucky, or it might eventually sink. Hesther
Is Sheffield becoming England's dustbin? Do we still incinerate everyone else's rubbish here too, polluting our air with toxic fumes and shortening our lifespan?
