rudds1
You might be better off finding out what going rate is to have chips repaired then seeing if it's worth while investing in a franchise
Chez2
I think you would be better looking at detail at a franchise contract and see what it entails, what is included and excluded, all small print T&Cs. Without that information our comments could be meaningless. I say that as I used to drive 150-300 miles per day so had a few chips repaired and replacement screens in my time. I found that the insurance company allocated someone to do the job. Without knowing how much business you could or could not get its pointless discussing the rest of the business model with us. You need to know if you will be guaranteed a certain amount of work is what I'm alluding to. Its no point it in theory being a profitable business if he doesn't get any customers because they are allocated elsewhere.
onlineo
As previously said see what contracts the company has and if it is allocating some of the work to you. The new van can be leased so not too much worries. Franchises usually follow a successful business model. The pro is everything is written down to show you want to do, sometimes good deals with suppliers and customers etc, the con is the extra cost, no flexibility you have to follow the rules strictly, sometimes you could get better deals elsewhere but have to use the suppliers stated, lots of it tends to be networking and telesales to get new business, if you dislike this then you will struggle. Franchises have a much higher success rate than other businesses but if you have good plans, contacts, brain and work ethic you will probably be successful regardless.
