TV licence thread

Recommended Posts

It's still against the law.

I'm all for campaigning to have the law changed. That might legitimately include defying it peacefully and making a case in court.

If people stopped paying that objected, it would force a rethink as to how that channel is delivered.

After all money is tight and bills are many. I dont think 'forcing' people on low incomes who are struggling with rent, clothes, bills and food to cough up 150 quid is ethical at all.

Is it true you can get a discount off your tv licence if your blind? Genuine question but would a blind person want to listen only to a programme with the voice over thing?

I had no opinion on TV Licence until our last move.

TVL saleswoman knocked on doors. My missus opened and told her we don't need it.

Then she just walked into our living room saying 'lets see about that'.

Then she pressured her to buy licence or give our details or sign something and didn't took no for an answer.

Trespass and harassment.

Im going to take a punt on this.

Was she Mid to late 40s?

Darkish but not too dark shoulder length hair?

About a size 14?

You need a licence if you have a TV capable of receiving a TV signal.

You need a licence if you watch it on any hardware.

If you watch it on microwave you need to pay it but if you don't watch it on TV set you don't even if you have one.

Mind you with capita it's guilty until proven innocent.

This bit of tv licensing website faq ROFL!!!

"We have a range of detection tools at our disposal in our vans.

Some aspects of the equipment have been developed in such secrecy that engineers working on specific detection methods work in isolation - so not even they know how the other detection methods work.

This gives us the best chance of catching licence evaders."

It's no secret any more.

I imagine in future it will go more high tech and be on some sort of encoded subscription basis.

It will also cover people using iplayer and catch up TV.

The detector van myth is common knowledge.

Renewed mine yesterday by the internet method, £145 for not much if you take all the repeats shown into the fee.

The Beeb will have to pull it's belt in like we all have to do, maybe reduce the amount of "wages" it pays its "stars" for a start, that should save them tens of millions.
