pikachu   10 #4 Posted January 15, 2016 Yes you can but please use the following advice when disposing of knives  HOW TO WRAP A KNIFE You can use newspaper or cardboard and you will need some sticky tape. To avoid personal injury, do not handle the sharp bladed edge of the knife.Using a few sheets of newspaper or cardboard, carefully wrap the knife with enough material to prevent it piercing through. Seal carefully with lots of sticky tape. This should prevent it from being easily removed or falling out of its wrapping. The knife must be wrapped or secured in a way that it can't be easily removed or used if you're challenged. GOING TO THE KNIFE BIN Familiarise yourself with the location of the knife bin. If it makes you feel safer, take your knife to the knife bin in daylight hours. Remember!!!!! It is still an offence to have the knife in a public place, but it is reasonable to be in possession of it when it is wrapped up as described and if you are going directly to the weapons bin to dispose of it. REMEMBER Exercise caution. Be safe, not sorry.
 Share this content via...

tinfoilhat   11 #9 Posted January 15, 2016 Isn't it sad that a few generations back thousands of young men in this city made pocket knifes, and carried them daily too no doubt. My uncle gave me a Swiss army type thing with a fake pearl handle when I was around 10 or 11 and I'm "only" going back 30 years. If I gave my nephew the same now my sister would string me up.  Now we have to have an amnesty for crappy pound land kitchen knives that get stuffed down a sock (that are made in China) so someone doesn't get stabbed. Oh and be careful kids they can be sharp too. No wonder young 'uns can't cook.  What a world.
 Share this content via...
RJRB Â Â 684 #10 Posted January 15, 2016 I think every boy who graduated from the cubs to the scouts in the 1950s enjoyed a trip to the Scout Shop to get a sheath knife to wear on his belt. I still have mine in the garage, decorated with some fur on the sheath. The irony is that as an 11 year old I could walk the streets with it,but today I would be arrested. I won't be handing mine in as it comes in very handy for a number of reasons, none of them to do with harming anyone else. I seem to remember buying a Scout stave at the same time which would probably also be considered a potential weapon today.
 Share this content via...
Nagel   10 #11 Posted January 16, 2016 Is there any evidence that these amnesties reduce knife crime?  Or do they have another purpose?
 Share this content via...
tinfoilhat   11 #12 Posted January 16, 2016 Is there any evidence that these amnesties reduce knife crime? Or do they have another purpose?  From the knife awareness projects own site, knife crime is falling and has done over the past 10 years. I don't know if amnesties have helped or not.
 Share this content via...
