sgtkate
Not recently, but had a few in the past. Sadly all are a scam! Could do with the extra few quid at the moment!

horribleblob
I get one or two of these scam "Inland Revenue" emails a year – and yes, scams they are. Ask yourself .... when did you give them your email address? If the OP pays tax online using Self Assessment, then HMRC would indeed know her/his email address – although they still notify you by snail mail of any tax refunds, not via email. lien1
As far as I am aware I have not given my email out to anyone but I'm sure that the inland revenue will always send you a letter as said above
PeteMorris
Here's your answer. horribleblob
HMRC sends all communication on paper If they owe you money they include check I received a tax refund last summer. The notification was by letter, but the money was paid direct into my bank account, the details of which they already had because of how I pay tax. That's what I was thinking, HMRC have my email address, but I wouldn't expect anything from the service apart from VAT reminders.
