sgtkate
First one of these I've had, so just to rewarn people about these scam calls: Pretty sure most of you are tech savvy enough not to fall for it, but just had a call on my mobile from 01732750297 pretending to be a computer repair company. Just need me to run some checks on my computer blah blah. Kept them on the phone for over 10 mins before I pointed out he was a scammer who was stealing money from vulnerable people and hope his mum is proud of him. Just be aware. louca001
Be careful out there people.... the more information you give these people the more they can pass on to their friends who might be able to trick someone else in your household. "Oh, I don't have a windows computer I have a Linux Laptop". Anyone calling you that says they can see your computer is a liar. No one can get access to your computer without your permission. If you're aged 50+ and worried about computer security pop into the Crucible on the 3rd Thursday of the month to talk to an Age UK Digital Champion. Not sure about that....eg. you have an unsecured wireless network..unless you take certain steps then any device attached to this is vulnerable surely? louca001
Not sure about that....eg. you have an unsecured wireless network If someone managed to get access to your computer via an unsecured wireless network why would they bother phoning you up to convince you to give them access? louca001
Someone would have to be pretty skilled to get access to your computer without your consent or physically being in front of it. They'd also have to be pretty stupid and desperate. No one would specifically target an 'average' person, they're more likely to target a multitude of people using email or these telephone scams. For example, calling all the TalkTalk customers pretending to be TalkTalk and needing to secure their computers.
Resident
That looks like a UK phone number. I'd get it reported to ActionFraud. Details of 01732750309 Company: Largon Ltd. Address: 7 Belmont Parade; Green Lane; Chislehurst; Kent; BR7 6AN Phone Number: 01732750309 / 00441732750309 +441732750309 Classification: Real Estate Agents Employees: 40307 Category Activities: Services, General Business In Database since: 02/11/2015 http://tinyurl.com/z4s7cfh - Hardly looks like a business that employs 40,000 employees. Either address is bogus or details registered are. EDIT: Further research shows Largon Ltd not registered at the above address but at 2 Brook Place Cottage, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN14 6BL, has been running since 1988 and is indeed an Estate Agency firm. All information above was found via LEGAL and PUBLIC searches. Edited January 13, 2016 by Resident
RabM
I spent some 20 minutes with one of these calls while they tried to help me find the start button. I kept insisting they were wrong and the Ctrl button they said was on the left was on the right-side of my keyboard. BTW note that they sometimes spoof other numbers http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/phone/tackling-nuisance-calls-and-messages/phone-spoof-scam/
