Insanely difficult/complex games

Through some of the Youtubers I watch regularly I stumbled across a game described as Dwarf Fortress meets 4X. It is called Aurora 4X, available for free (check the Reddit /r/aurora - the official site is on the blink due to an upsurge in popularity due to these Youtubers) and has been in development by one person for years (as far as I can work out).

I already had a sick fascination for Dwarf Fortress, which is insanely complex and difficult and this game looks like it is going to be a corker long-term game as well.

Does anybody know of other indie games like this? I thought DF was it, but finding Aurora made me realise that there is more out there...

Another one I play on/off is Wall Street Raider, I first played it in the last century and it is still being supported!

Oni and the Blind Forest. It's indie, but not PC/Mac, it's an xbox one exclusive.

Never heard of it before, it came free with my xbox one bundle.

I had a go this past weekend out of curiosity and, bearing in mind I'm well schooled in 2D action and platformers (weaned as I was on TNZS and similar classics in my misspent youth :D), it seems not every dev has forgotten how to make a rock hard 2D platformer. It promptly reminded me of my past, immature joystick-throwing tantrums :hihi:

"Ori and the Blind Forest" is on xBox One, xBox 360 and Windows

It's not on Mac/Linux, but is on PC ;)

Here's a link to the Steam version... http://store.steampowered.com/app/261570/

Argh I hate those! Reminds me of the endless attempts to get through Megaman on the NES... In fact, one of the controllers (which were pretty much indestructible) got destroyed on an attempt to beat the game.

They are definitely not for me these days, I have several games that are supposed to be 'awesome' and just do my head in because the difficulty is generated by impossible key-combinations rather than intelligence if you see what I mean?

Having said that, my Dwarf Fortress recently died out because one of the children got bitten by a Were-mongoose. Don't ask.
