Runningman
I was shocked to the core upon reading that over the last 30 years approx. 137 individuals imprisoned for life were eventually found to be not guilty after serving a substantial number of years of their original sentence. Would such a fact bother you ? Can you imagine not only the pain of an innocent individual in prison but the pain that their families had to suffer. Well done to our system of justice !! Have you ever served on a jury and had major doubts about the defendants guilt ? Don't ever forget Timothy Evans, George Kelly, Mahmood Hussein Mattan and David Bentley. All hanged and later had their convictions squashed. Don't always believe what you read in the papers about those alleged to have murdered someone. Of course it failed these people were innocent and were sent down with a life sentence, some of these people went for years protesting their innocence ,as in the Birmingham bombers case, stiched up by a bent legal system that had to get somebody. The use of dna has been used in a number of cases, leading to the real culprit being sent down. As I said no system is perfect, so 137 cases is a lot more meaningful if we compare that to how many murder trials there have been in the last 30 years as well as how many people are convicted. That way you can see things in perspective. There wouldnt be a trial unless people protested their innocence.
