jamesey
hi , at the moment ive got a newish line from my telegraph pole coming into my loft to a gpo junction box that line runs from the junction box down my internal boxing of the soil pipe right downstairs to my stop **** cuboard , in there theres another gpo junction box , this runs to a socket in my front room with a resister on the socket , from there its been doubled up across the room to another socket to feed my router , ,,,,,,so there like 3 connections before it touches my router , ive got no master NT5 socket but would like to wire one in from the loft downwards with no connections at all , loft to router , in my boxing ive found 2 single wires a red and a white wire were these the old master bt wires for A&B on the NT5? , if not i need to know what cable to use for the nt with the main test wires included , any bt engineers out there to help? Guest
I think normally anything before the master socket belongs to BT so you shouldn't really touch it but as you don't have one I'm not sure You should be able to find images/resources on google of the various BT wiring both internal and external so have a check there, I found them useful. Failing that you'll have to ring BT I think.

alarmingmark
Think you have answered it yourself ! New solid core BT cable straight to a new master socket from loft junction box . 2 cores use blue/ white and white and blue ... 2 and 5 in the NTE / A, B Depending on the NTE master May have a BT master if you are struggling ! Obelix
its open reach from the telegraph pole into my loft , then mine from there to my master , im not paying the 160 they want to rewire it when i can do it myself It's not yours. It belongs to Openreach until the demarcation line is met. Get them to do the work - you wont like it if someone rings the line whilst you have your fingers on it I know that. Get a fault raised with your service provider and ask the attending engineer to bring your internal wiring up to modern standards. The dropouts you mention could be caused by numerous other factors though. Service providers used to pay Openreach to remove starwiring and upgrade internal wiring as part of a 'managed install' product. The SP's like to save money so have mostly stopped this now, creating all sorts of issues for customer's when they upgrade to Fibre.
walkertelecoms
Oldish thread, but here goes. Obelix is bang on the money. BT's service (Upstream) ends where ever their master socket (or 1st socket to the house is), everything after that is yours. The newer NTE5's (and older NTE5's for that matter) have a lower access panel on the faceplate, this is yours, everything else isn't. The way the cable runs through your property, down internal cavities etc, seems very unlikely a job BT would've done, especially with the colours of cables you've mentioned. So they won't take responsibility for that and charge appropriately. Your setup though, sounds very familiar to me, almost like one I've visited before. AlexAtkin
How does that work though when (as I understand it) the master socket is wired FROM that none-standard wiring? Surely BT must take responsibility for it, otherwise neither party can touch it, stalemate.
