poppet2
Surely it can't be because of the design of these sink council estates. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-35274783 Edited January 10, 2016 by poppet2
Anna B
Just another one of Cameron's attention seeking soundbites. Impossible to happen and even if it did id wouldn't cure poverty. Actually, it sounds more as though he wants to do away with Council housing altogether.
tinfoilhat
Good idea in principle but until there are a lot more houses built there's no point.
I1L2T3
It's a start. Obviously none of these sink estates will be on prime land in inner London
poppet2
Private landlords must be laughing all the way to the bank. Where else will these social housing tenants go while the works takes place? ---------- Post added 10-01-2016 at 19:27 ---------- It's a start. Obviously none of these sink estates will be on prime land in inner London Yes they will. Three have already been mentioned in London.

Ah they're fed up waiting for the effects of the benefits cap to flush out the remaining undesirables I guess.
poppet2
The problem is, this is a land grab for the private sector. The houses rebuilt on these lands will be private and unaffordable to social tenants and housing benefit won't even cover the rent. It's social cleansing by stealth. Anna B
Might be a good idea if they got legislation in place to make the land grabbers who buy land just to hold onto it (big 4 supermarkets, for example, hold loads of land to prevent other supermarkets setting up business,) give it up for building houses. Eric Arthur
Just another one of Cameron's attention seeking soundbites. Impossible to happen and even if it did id wouldn't cure poverty. Actually, it sounds more as though he wants to do away with Council housing altogether. If Jeremy had said he wanted to rebuild council estates you'd have been all over it like a rash to say what at fantastic idea it is. Oh hang on, he already did when he said “There is no answer to this housing crisis that doesn’t start with a new, very large, very active council housebuilding project,” Corbyn told delegates. Labour promises “investment in council housing, affordable homes, to rent and to buy”. Private landlords must be laughing all the way to the bank. Where else will these social housing tenants go while the works takes place? I don't think that anyone will be demolishing every house and flat on the Manor before building new ones. poppet2
Sink estates only exist due to a small element that spoil it for others, ie drug dealers, prostitution, graffetti artists, gangs. It's nothing to do with the design and rat runs. These problems didn't exist when they were first built and new families moved in.
