chem1st
I look at the UK and it seems that there is serious problems with law and order. So much violence with little being done and the longstanding problems with sexual offences just seem to be ignored. Be it the lack of people brought to justice for the CSE epidemic that was covered up, of the tiny amount of people who get convicted for crimes like rape. But if you dare drop a piece of litter, or drive a few mph too fast, there is a Nazi on you quicker than you can say, "i'm skint as it is". And boom, they issue a FPN and make you pay! So it seems, there is a simple solution. the powers that be start issuing FPNs for violent and sexual offences. And if you employ people to issues fines for violent and sexual offences in South Yorkshire you'll also solve the problem with austerity too, but would be a mere accidental side effect. What do you think?>
unbeliever
It's too small. People who commit such offences need to be removed from society. I can't support either answer on your poll. These offences are a serious blight on our society, but FPNs are not an option in my view.

unbeliever
Surely it is better to issue an FPN, than do nowt. Are those the only 2 options? How about more support for victims, and harsher punishments for those convicted.

redfox
They do it already - the number of FPN issued on a friday/saturday night to people after fighting and all manner of offences, when the officers actually on duty (and there won't be many of them) get to those involved would horrify you. FPN for affray/aoabh/crim damage/assault pc - etc etc The reason - cos its cheaper than locking them up and prosecuting them.
