fatrajah
I remember Chester Street. There was a bomb-site car park for GPO telephones vans in the 1960s. Chester Street was very short & ran between Trafalgar Street & Eldon Street.

cliffelad
can anyone pinpoint no 59 chester st on the map & who would have lived there in 1911 thanks
hillsbro
No 59 was on the south side between Eldon Street and Fitzwilliam Street, next door to the Grey Horse Inn. The 1911 census return shows Clara Bowling as the householder at No 59.

PeterR
My dear mother Elsie Rowley (nee Hallam), who was born in 1917, lived at 20 Chester Street as a child with her parents, (my grandparents), Ivanhoe (Ivyno) who was a 'little mester' in the cutlery trade and his wife Annie. My mother was the youngest of ten siblings, three of whom had died by the time she was born. The family moved to 16 Longley Avenue West when she was still a child but I'm unsure when. Here are some photos which I believe would have been taken possibly whilst she still lived at Chester Street, but I'm unsure if the photos were taken there. Perhaps someone may recognise the type of property?? My mother back row 2nd from left at her sister's, my Aunt Lily's wedding c1927... My aunty Annie, my mother's sister, poss. at Chester Street c1925... My grandma Annie Hallam poss. at Chester Street c1925... My grandad Ivanhoe Hallam on right of pic, poss. at Chester Street c1925 Wonder where no 20 was in relation to cliffelad's pic. of the Grey Horse Inn just above the hand written 'Chester Street' shown here again for convenience... Perhaps hillsbro could help? http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s01285&prevUrl= And shown here again in 1964... http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s14326&pos=11&action=zoom&id=17146 Peter.
