Fantasy island ingoldmells in the hands of the receivers

Recommended Posts

I went a couple of weeks ago for a run out for the day and it was still quite busy around fantasy island they are painting the rides looks like they are refurbishing it so there may still be some financial interest in it .we went for our lunch in skeggy and it was packed out so obviously there are a lot of people think the same as me its worth a visit

Why because I never went to Skegness as my summer holiday.Sorry don't think I'm the only person. My parents just worked a lot to take us somewhere where the sea was blue and was warmer than the North Sea. You got one thing correct though, I am not common.

Also you must care to comment!?

Of course you're entitled to an opinion, but it would carry more weight if your statement was factually accurate

Ingoldmells is not Skegness - it is a separate village

Torremolinos started off life as a caravan park for British tourists, and is now a massive holiday resort. As said before, the east coast has come on leaps and bounds, and is a great place here in England to visit for a break. It's not 5 star, but its ours and an institution, if nothing else.

I loved it as a kid, and still do today with my grandchildren. Busy, yes. A bit tacky, yes also, but a huge amount of fun for everyone, from any walk of life.

Me!

I remember it before all the caravans invaded.

There was just a few caravan sites in those days. Nothing on the scale of today.

It was like countryside beside the sea.

Crikey...how far back are you going, sixties?

I work there maybe 4 times a year, spending 2-3 days each time,it is beyond me how people enjoy it.The sites near the funfair must be noisy all day,how do you relax with all that noise 7 days a week? Thousands do enjoy it every year, how is beyond me,I prefer somewhere quieter.

So what criteria are you using for never wanting to go even though you were never taken because your parents though it was a little low brow? What is it you don't like about a place you haven't visited as a tourist?

I unfortunately spent a summer there working many years ago, I was sent the with someone else and I had a crap and horribly racist boss so it was good just for that. It's just all so cheap and tacky. The fact you can't easily go swimming in the sea and nothing to do other than fantasy island or stay onside at a butlins :/

Yep me too :D, Me and a mate used to go there for a weekend quite often with the tent after finishing work at 12 on Saturday on our motorbikes....this was the days of mods/rockers......there were very few caravans where the Eastgate site is now it was mostly campers.I still have a ride out on the bike to Ingoldmells/Skeggie in the summer months quite a lot and it is always full of people.

Yes it was the 60's

So did a lot more parents, especially the miners who holidayed at the "miners holiday camp"..as i did too as a youngster.Just to add, I'm as common as muck

I guess most of us 'commoners' went to 'common' schools. I wonder what high brow establishment you went to for your heducashun?

"Nothing to do"? Probably says more about you than the whole of the East coast and its people.

Yep....the late sixties.

In the late eighties, and having the luxury of a touring caravan it was always on our "must list" for at least one visit a year, despite the commercialism.

I've no doubt I'll visit again in 2016.

Yes, you are doubtless a special person. With special needs.

Seen a bit of Perry and Croft today, they were saying the inspiration for Hi-De-Hi came from Butlins after WW2 when millions want. I think Fantasy Island has gone the same way, times move on and people want something different.

I used to love places like that when I was younger but can't stand them now.

My missus talked me in to going on the day they were holding a festival of rubbish and an art exhibition on a fat woman with more tattoos than Popeye.

I left my missus to it in the market after a few minutes and went for a walk to the beach, it was absolutely packed in the shops arcades and pubs on the way but very few on the beach on a sunny day.

On the other hand that area obviously offers what some people want to do on holiday, which makes you wonder why Fantasy Island has gone in to administration.

I'll say this for it though, if you want to get your five a day fruit and veg, there are plenty of places you can get extra mushy peas on your F&C and extra onions on your burger.
