Campaign grows to switch the building of HS2 station to Sheffield city

Recommended Posts

We also lose the increase in capacity to our rail network.

It's already running at its maximum capacity, so if we aren't to spend any money increasing it I guess we can just look forwards to an even more overcrowded, failing system for the future.

They shouldn't have sold it on the amazing speed aspect because everyone just had issues with it.

Just say the network is at max capacity, we need more capacity, we're building a new line.

All the reports and publicity is around speed and time savings so why be surprised that that is what people pick up when discussing it?

It was always sold as extra capacity as far as I'm aware. I went to a presentation they gave to Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce a couple of years ago. People just seemed to jump on the time saving probably because they heard someone else say that.

Certainly not the official reports, but press releases fed to the media and the name "High Speed" was jumped on by the popular press. Millions were spent by local authorities and Golf Courses in the south on campaigns to discredit the project included bombarding Northern and Midland media with false information- and some swallowed it.

If that was the case then why isn't its name EC2?  Its called High Speed 2 is it not?

Because we like fast and new whizzy. Can you imagine the headlines if they'd said, "yep, more capacity but we are going to try and keep it the same speed and reliability as the Victorian infrastructure we already have".

Should of had a public consultation to name the line and/or trains instead.

The public would have been distracted trying to name it "Trainy McTrainFace" and wouldn't have complained as much.

As someone else said, about the ever increasing projected cost of the line to Birmingham, wouldn't it be cheaper to knock down Birmingham and rebuild it nearer to London?

At the rate we are going it may well be cheaper to relocate London further north.

India seems to be more developed now and started a hyperloop line.

HS2 is already out of date. It's better to cancel it and either work on improving existing systems or stop dragging and move on properly instead of always staying behind.

They have not completed the first part of the feasibility study of the first phase of the demonstration track which will be built in the USA.

Hyperloop is a point to point system and so is useless in the UK.

They have started to build the Mumbai to pune section. Your excuses why we should use an old fashioned system instead of really moving on are typical comical. Every train goes from point to point.

Ps. They already have HS there.
