Winge about the cost and benefits as much as you want , but it's a fact it will be built. The in fighting , the objections to various locations puts Sheffield in great danger of missing out altogether . If we don't get the station in the city centre it will be scandalous. The 4 th biggest city in England , with no airport and no HS2 seriously puts businesses off investing in the town centre and surrounding areas. It will almost certainly be by a spur off the main high speed line just south of Clay Cross onto the Nottingham leg of the Midland Mainline tracks. The main high speed line will run to Leeds following the M18 and through Mexborough. Classic compatibles built to the conventional British loading gauge will serve Sheffield Midland and Liverpool Lime Street. I could never understand their 'logic' in wanting HS2 in the city centre anyway, not from building the region point of view. They seem to have a vey myopic view of business and the region in general. Â There is a lot of development Mexborough / Barnsley way on so no doubt useful to the large industrial areas recently developed and currently under construction. SCC and some of the people in Sheffield are so stupid it beggars belief!  I've lost track of this.  So now HS2 will have a non HS2 branch to connect into Meadowhall?  And SCC proposed HS2 comes via the current Sheffield station?  What was the original HS2 proposal for Sheffield then, if it was not a non HS2 branch into Meadowhall and why was it dropped? SCC campaigned to not have that and instead to have the line run through the city centre.  Now they have neither, and we will have a regular speed line as a spur from the HS2 line, meaning much less frequent trains and a (slightly) longer journey time, perhaps with a connection to make to actually get an HS2 train.  The argument they made was that HS2 being 5 minutes from the city centre was useless and that people wouldn't use it... But why have HS2 not just stuck with the original default option of HS2 going through Meadowhall?  Surely that is better than what is now proposed. Have SCC campaigned for the city centre option by saying Meadowhall is no good at all (rather than its good, but we can do even better) resulting in the current situation?
