betterman   10 #217 Posted December 13, 2015 I think most Muslims move here for economic reasons. They're just normal people who want jobs, homes, a future for their children.  So you won't have an issue if one day you and your children are living in a Muslim majority country?  ---------- Post added 13-12-2015 at 09:13 ----------  What Donald J Trump is doing as a consequence of all his planned policies is putting the interests of all those already living in America regadless of faith first . Similarly our own Government are putting our own interests first by not allowing as many Syrian refugees to live in Britain as other European Countries are doing . Both Donald J Trump and the current British Government can fairly be accused of being selfish and sensible . I don't have a problem with leaders acting in the best interest of their own people and those already living in their country .  I agree, most people will act in their own best interests. mafya   246 #218 Posted December 13, 2015 That's a good point. Without endorsing the assertion that Islam is universally barbaric... Islam is not a race, it's a creed. It's fascinating how somebody can become obsessed with the correct technical and traditional use of the term "Socialist" but is quite happy to extend the terms "Fascist" and "Racist" to somebody who shows no interest in autocracy and demonstrates no prejudice based on ethnicity.  Hating Muslims is the new racism no matter how you try and dress it up = http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2014/nov/05/islam-muslims-hate-ideology-racism
 Share this content via...
Quik   10 #219 Posted December 13, 2015  Pointing out what some people say doesn't make you a racist. I wouldn't know what they say, are you claiming that they don't say ‘We want deal!'  I haven't had business dealings with japanese but i've had more than a few with chinese and i have always found them to be big on showing (and being shown) respect. Negotiations can go on for ages in rather convoluted manners so that nobody loses face. So I suspect mr trump has just made up the stereotype of 'we want deal' of the top of his rather odd looking head.
 Share this content via...
unbeliever   10 #220 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) Hating Muslims is the new racism no matter how you try and dress it up = http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2014/nov/05/islam-muslims-hate-ideology-racism  Grey is sometimes the new black. That doesn't make grey black.  If you're saying that bigoted people have switched their focus from other races to Islam, then you have a good point. I'm sure there's a lot of that going on.  But even if you're born into it, being a Muslim is a matter of choice. That's an important distinction. If, as you do, one chooses to be a Muslim one is choosing to associate oneself with that ideology. Just as one might choose to associate with, for example, socialism.  It's important to draw a distinction between being critical of the ideology of Islam and "hating" Muslims. I'm critical of the ideology of socialism, but I don't hate socialists. If, as you do, a Muslim endorses democracy and secular government, there's no issue. As with socialists who endorse democracy and respect the right of others to disagree.  Those who want to criticise Islam should be careful to make it clear that they do not wish to make an attack on all Muslims. Just as it would also be healthy for those who follow Islam not to deflect criticism of Islam by labelled all who criticise Islam as hateful of Muslims. Did you read the article before posting? Maybe I should refer to all non Muslims as Kafir or infidels as kafirs and infidels are not a race are they? Did you read the article before posting? Maybe I should refer to all non Muslims as Kafir or infidels as kafirs and infidels are not a race are they?  So are we saying that the actual prejudice is against Arabs? Or Persians, Arabs and Semites? I doubt the Jews would be happy about that. Or perhaps Punjabis, Sindhis, Seraikis, Pashtuns, Mohajirs, Balochs, and Kashmiris as well? If so, I dare say that the Sikhs and Hindus would have something to say about that. I suppose that Muslims from Transcaucasia are safe?  Perhaps what you're saying is that increasing concern about fundamentalist/puritanical Islam are being used by racists to mistreat people with brown skin. That is most certainly racism. I'm not all that pale myself. Perhaps I should worry.  Call me an infidel all you want if the tone of the conversation is not threatening. I'd probably be more worried by being called Kafir which I understand translates roughly as heretic, and perhaps even more as Riddah, but than I think you have to be a Muslim at some point for that.  The Japanese call me "Gaijin", and I don't have a huge problem with that.  I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.  Is what ideology one subscribes to not a big part of the content of one's character? I1L2T3 Â Â 10 #226 Posted December 13, 2015 So you won't have an issue if one day you and your children are living in a Muslim majority country? Â No, why would I? I quite like Islam as a religion in a lot of ways. Â Its not going to happen in the UK anyway. On current trends it would probably take hundreds of years. We could reach 10-15% Max in the next 50 years but birth rates in Muslim families are dropping anyway.
 Share this content via...

blake   10 #228 Posted December 13, 2015 The people that support Trump the most are those that want Hilary and the Democrats to win next year's election massively, by a landslide. Because that's what will happen should he - and it is still unlikely - get the nomination.  He's just like Jeremy Corbyn. His biggest supporters are his opponents.
