PeterR Â Â 10 #25 Posted December 18, 2015 Great photos, Peter, and what a glamorous co-pilot! I seem to remember that in the early 1990s a Vulcan did a flypast at a Rother Valley Country Park event, but I wasn't able to get there. What a pity that the last Vulcan will soon be grounded, and nobody will ever again be able to fly in this iconic aircraft. The same applies, sadly, to Concorde - flying at Mach 2 is now just a memory for everyone except air force people. But here is a "Concorde composite" of my own 2003 trip. I got sozzled on the Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy XO! Â Hi hillsbro, Â Yes, I like your Concorde composite pics. Lovely memories eh? The food and service was certainly better than trolley and box. Â I also remember taking my eldest son to an RAF Finningley display in around 1977 when he was around 10 years old. ( he's now 49 and lives in the village of Everton close to the airport). It was the first time we saw a Vulcan close up in a hangar. It looked massive to us and fantastic in Cold War white. Â Peter. hillsbro   27 #26 Posted December 26, 2015 I just found this photo of a Vulcan at the Finningley display in 1977. Also included in the flypast were a Lancaster and a Nimrod.
 Share this content via...

Yes, I seem to remember that display. :)  If you've not seen the programme on the last Vulcan flight, I haven't and will be viewing, there's a repeat on ''More 4 channel'' next Tues 29th Dec '15 at 9 pm. TORONTONY   10 #29 Posted December 27, 2015 I just found this photo of a Vulcan at the Finningley display in 1977. Also included in the flypast were a Lancaster and a Nimrod.  Great pictures of 3 iconic aircraft. I must admit to a tinge of sadness at the Nimrod photo, as one crashed into Lake Ontario during the annual airshow in Toronto several years ago killing all crew members. My wife and daughters witnessed that tragic event, and were really upset when they heard of the loss of life involved. I was working that day so missed it, thankfully. geotom   10 #30 Posted December 27, 2015 If you want to get up close to the last Vulcan to fly, you can book a hangar tour at Doncaster Airport. On the tour you can walk under the wings, and a guide will tell you all about it....fantastic.. I really enjoyed it. that was at the beginning of November 2015, a week after its last flight. The Vulcan web site gives prices and the different tours, it's worth it. Back in the late '50's early '60's? I remember my father taking me to Finningley to watch them take off. At the far side of the airfield was a lane which ran the length of the runway, the lane lead to gravel pits, that's where he used to park up, what a view of them taking off and landing. andyrad29   10 #31 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Hi hillsbro, What an experience eh? At least I have been inside the stationary display Concorde at Brooklands.  I last saw the Vulcan a few weeks ago, from my garden, doing it's last display over Crofts Racing Circuit 10 miles away across the fields from my home in North Yorkshire just half a mile south of the border with County Durham. Could easily distinguish that iconic delta wing.  Here's some pics I took 25 years ago of a faded old Vulcan at the South Yorkshire Air Museum which was based at Firbeck until relocating to Doncaster in 1999. There were very few people at the museum at the time of the pics and no one near the Vulcan. My co pilot became Mrs.R. 19 years ago.      Peter.  Correct me if i'm wrong these pics are of 391 at Blackpool which was broken up in the 90's  ---------- Post added 02-01-2016 at 10:22 ----------  Correct me if i'm wrong these pics are of 391 at Blackpool which was broken up in the 90's  Yes definatley XL391 which used to be at Blackpool Airport,  here's myself and my brother taken on 17th April 1988!  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v692/andyrad/391%2017.4.88_zpsviljd22g.jpg  (the red fire engine at the rear still there!)  ---------- Post added 02-01-2016 at 10:28 ----------  Great photos, Peter, and what a glamorous co-pilot! Not sure if it's happened yet but the last flight ever of a Vulcan was due some time towards the end of 2015.  Unfortunaley yes it has and i am the lucky owner of a certificate which was on board that last ever flight!  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v692/andyrad/certificate_zpsrqbgsw4a.jpg Edited January 2, 2016 by andyrad29
 Share this content via...

Great pic! I bow to your superior memory  My wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, and I had a look at the Vulcan at Blackpool Airport on the same day as she flew, for the first time, in a light aircraft there in April '90. This was to get the feel of flying before our trip to what was Yugoslavia in May of that year, albeit in a bigger aircraft  Peter. We saw the last flight programme the other night and were reminded of the climb up into the cockpit. Not much more room than in the light aircraft! Great stuff. Only 50p eh. But it would be regarded by some as just one of many old scrappers at the time eh? Edited January 2, 2016 by PeterR
 Share this content via...
