Paint stripper recommendations?

Can anyone recommend paint stripper for removing paint from stairs as wanting to treat and wax it as wanting wooden staircase?

Ive tried all sorts on chemicals on all sorts of paints but nothing is a good as paint gun imho.

Obviously user error on my part, but I tried caustic soda once on paint on a ceiling. First go I must have waterered it down too much as it did little, second time it was quite thick (and getting warm in the jug) and it eventually ate into the plaster underneath, causing it to bubble... resulting in more work for me overall. So I'm wary of it now.

A skarsten scraper is a good tool for removing paint. I think B&Q do a similar tool

I found Kling Strip to be effective for getting old oil-based gloss off our bay window lintels.

It was a mucky job though, and it's caustic stuff. Goggles and gloves essential.
