Is it safe to holiday in Muslim countries now?

Recommended Posts

So on the basis of one location, years ago, told 2nd hand to you, that's all Muslim countries out.

What you've said makes no sense.

Why would the prospect of "something bad happening" be in the mind of those in ALL Muslim countries, but not those in Paris?

You admit that the chance is slight (extremely slight I'd say), there is a similar, extremely slight chance in Paris, or London, or many other places. So why would you be more worried in Casablanca than in Paris?

There's a greater danger from traffic, but I bet you don't spend all your time on the road worrying about it, unable to relax.

Shows the mindset of some of the locals though.By the way,my sis is no coward or liar. Why fund people like this through tourism? A holiday is time to switch off and relax, why complicate your life?

They'll certainly be more on your side than their German and Swedish colleagues, by the look of news reports.

Especially the pro-Front National sort (...which is still much, if not more still, of the Police, the CRS and the Gendarmes these days).

Self-perpetuating part-problem and part-solution all rolled into one, that :(

Arriving at Bahrain airport shortly after the Russian airliner was blown up by terrorists. Despite the terrorist attack it was still possible to pass through check-in without security, bagage checks or even passport control. That's the difference.

Of course the danger from traffic is a definite risk, but the difference is nobody is out to run you over or crash on purpose, they are all accidental unlike terrorist acts.

No-one, all, etc... Those are all absolutes, let's face it you can't say that, that's like saying all Muslims are racists, rapists and murderers, its simply not true.

However, yes we hear stories all the time (just not on the BBC) about hate crimes and persecution of non-Muslims in these so called peaceful religious countries (even the locals are fleeing to Western countries.)

Plenty of nice places in the world to visit, with minimum risk of getting your napper removed from your body with a blunt kitchen knife. Or blown into flying mince by some deranged virgin chaser with 20lbs of semtex strapped to his body.

I was looking at a Villa in Turkey this summer for me, the missus and our daughters. Not now though, i'm not taking any chances with the girls. Italy, or Portugal for us.

What about North Cyprus would that now be considered dangerous.

Don't know about dangerous but supporting the economy of an unrecognised occupier of a fellow European country isn't exactly cricket even if it is safe.

Puts it into perspective though when you realise that you're more likely to die in an RTA on the way to the airport. Helps people stop being hysterical.

What if there were as many radical extremists as cars over here?

I bet the odds in some Muslim countries are vastly different to those here! It also seems that if you're a child on an obvious school bus makes you more of a target, it sounds like genocide to me!

Another day another attack.

A series of bomb blasts have rocked the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, with gun battles on the streets.

The blasts were centred around Thamrin Street, a major shopping and business district close to foreign embassies and the United Nations offices.

Police say the situation is now under control, with five suspected attackers among at least seven people killed.

It is not yet clear what group was behind the assault, which President Joko Widodo called an "act of terror".

"We all are grieving for the fallen victims of this incident, but we also condemn the act that has disturbed the security and peace and spread terror among our people," he said.

Images from Jakarta have showed several bodies lying on the road outside a cafe, as well as seriously injured people being carried away.

Details remain unclear, but at least one of the blasts hit a Starbucks cafe outside the Sarinah shopping centre and next to a police security post.

Eyewitnesses say several attackers entered the cafe and detonated explosives.

And today another attack.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2016/01/gunfire-explosions-heard-burkina-faso-hotel-160115210231966.html

Over 20 people are killed and an unknown number of hostages taken in an attack on a restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.

At least 126 hostages, including a government minister, have been freed and three gunmen have been killed, the Associated Press news agency reported on Saturday, quoting a government official.

A senior security official said that armed fighters have rigged with explosives the upper floors of the Splendid Hotel they seized on Friday, slowing the progress of United States and French-assisted Burkinabe security forces seeking to retake it.

"What's making our job more difficult is that they've rigged the access to the upper floors," the Burkinabe officer, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.

Security forces in the early hours of Saturday began an assault to reclaim the besieged hotel and entered its lobby, part of which was on fire, witnesses said.

Diallo Ismael, a human rights activist, said that about 300 people could be inside the hotel popular with foreigners.

Just to let everyone know we have now changed the holiday to Palma nova... We qualified for a change with no charge as there are no flights now to turkey from East Midlands or Doncaster(our chosen airport) this summer.

Manchester only flights.
