Online activity to be stored under new law

Recommended Posts

The government becoming more controlling and dictatorial could well be part of the plan. They sing from the same hymnsheet and both ultimately want roughly the same outcomes.

Don't trust them. Seriously.

I agree, governments are scared of peace and what the people want, that's why they ignore them.

The governments are creating the problems so that new draconian laws can be brought in by the back door as a means of control. The same happened after 9/11 with the UK's anti-terrorism laws that were also conveniently used for non-terrorist activities.

This has nothing to do with tracking real criminals and protecting people. Real criminals don't use open communication to discuss their criminality and terrorists aren't typing "How to make a bomb" into Google from their home computers. This is entirely to keep and eye on the average every day man, and ensure he's not suddenly going to start thinking for himself and challenging power.

Use TOR. It's still perfectly safe (as long as you disable Java and don't run it full screen)

The worry here is the piecemeal erosion of privacy and the mindset of successive home secretaries in the pursuit of this. Not a problem with the current government but its laying the groundwork for an abusive government.

I'm far less concerned about political point-scoring and taking on your habitual socialism-can-never-do-wrong kneejerking on here, than about this n-th attempt at eroding our right to privacy still further by legitimising illegal practices, so you ain't gonna get any more out of me on that front ;)
Surely by now you've realised that everyone on here is either a rabid right winger or a saintly Leftie?

Jeez!

This HAS to be the most abusive government since the Nazis.

The likes of Gove, Duncan-Smith, Grayling et al are more abusive in their dealings with people than even the Thatcherite Junta of the '80s

But strangely enough it was Labour under Blair leadership that introduced all the draconian anti-terrorism laws, and not this government.

So blame Blair, Blunkett and the like.

But they are using chat rooms, mobile phones, landline phones, hidden discussion forums and messaging services which will can be found, tracked and exposed under such law.

Look at the bigger picture and what they will be able to track. Its not as moronically simple as spotting people typing bomb making into google.

The internet has layers and layers.

Well said. Plenty of tory bashers keep forgetting this important detail.

I'd be very surprised if they were as that's a simple way to get a visit from your local Navy Seal team.

Wasn't Osama using messengers to run al qaeda in the end ?
